TOONG MONIVONG
Phnom Penh, Concept 2019
Coworking Space, 1000 sqm
Artworks by Sothea Tang
Toong is a young and successful chain of coworking space. It appears modern and sophisticated while keeping in mind Its south East Asian origins.
The concept for Toong Monivong is inspired by the chinese shophouses that were around the canal de verneville which connected the cathedral of Phnom Penh (now the railway station). It recalls the artisan feeling blend and blend it with contemporary minimalism. The aim is to create a working space with character that relates to artist worksops and craft makerspaces.
It shall convey simplicity and intuitions, the idea of blending workspace and lifetyle. Not trying to be too trendy or too pinterest, Toong Monivong should look like an effortless design and should look and feel like an elegant modern workshop. The atmosphere will be between light and shadow, with light color tones and filtering screens allowing for privacy.
Natural local materials were prioritized for exemple, the floor is covered with cement tiles , the private studios have wooden frames. The overall tone is kept organic using cream color render and marsala accents.
