KUNGFU KITCHEN

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Completed 2023

Restaurant, 340sqm

The Art Of Cooking For The People

A well-established modern Chinese restaurant chain in Phnom Penh, Kungfu Kitchen was looking for a revamp for their future locations, particularly in order to elevate the user experience. Centering around Kungfu Kitchen’s brand identity and personality, the space designed by Bloom showcases the creative approach to Chinese cooking, as an art form.

When one enjoys asian street food, there are distinctive sensory-rich experiences such as the visual character of the light, movement and crowd, the mouth-watering aromas directly from the stove and the hissing sound of deep frying, metal clang and loud conversation.

The Open Kitchen embodies those experiences, visible to the public as an expressive monolithic volume. The glossy surfaces of back-painted glass reflect light and offer a clean and modern look.

The space planning aim is to reveal the mesmerizing movements of different cooking techniques accentuated by dedicated spotlights and communicate the dedication that went into the preparation of the food served to each patron.

The presence of the facade directs the attention to the interior atmosphere, the fully glazed entrance adjoins the dining experience to the bustling district of BKK1.

Low plastic stools and tables are placed along the entrance as a waiting area for customers and delivery men, a final take to street style.

The achievement of this renovation lies in the ability to tell a story of Kungfu Kitchen with authenticity and apply it conveniently in all locations.
